AN INDEPENDENT family-run bar business has been marking its tenth anniversary by selling a special brew to raise funds for charity.
Bar 166 & Bistro in Horsforth has been selling a celebration craft pilsner-style ale to raise at least £1,000 for the local community.
Brothers Matthew and Ben Jones launched their first business at the age of 24 and 19 when they took over the former Stuarts Wine Bar in Town Street in December 2004 which led to the creation of the Jones Bar Group that has several venues around Leeds.
At Bar 166 & Bistro, which had ten staff, their first year’s trading generated a £780,000 turnover. Through further acquisitions and ventures the brothers grew the business, launching Jones Bar Group in 2009.
They now operate nine outlets employing more than 100 full and part-time staff, serving about 280,000 customers a year and this year achieved a £6.3 million turnover.
Matthew Jones, said: “We’ve had some knocks and failures in the last ten years but we have built the business to success through sheer determination.
“We’re marking our tenth anniversary by going back to Bar 166 & Bistro where it all started.”
