Former Bradford business leader and ambassador for the city Geoffrey Wilson has died aged 88.
A retired wool merchant, Mr Wilson was president of Bradford Chamber of Commerce from 1973 to 1975. After working for Martins Bank and gaining an economics degree, he joined city centre wool brokers R G Bailey and also ran the Swedish Vice Consulate in Bradford. He was president of Bradford Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1965 – 1966 and deputy national president of the British Junior Chamber of Commerce. He travelled widely , including to Australia and New Zealand, representing the Bradford wool trade and in his role as JCC president, promoting business links and Bradford exports and the Woolmark. He was a member of the Bradford Circle for Foreign Languages, regularly hosting French and German students. He is survived by his widow Brenda, to whom he was married for 58 years, two children and three grandchildren.
The funeral is at St Matthew’s Church, Bankfoot, Bradford, at noon on Monday.
