A mechanic at Bradford-based motors group JCT600 has been named the No1 Ferrari technician in Northern Europe.
Daniel Dawson, 23, who works for the firm’s Brooklands dealership in Leeds, beat hundreds of Ferrari technicians from the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and Holland to win the title.
Next month, he will travel to Italy to take on rivals from the rest of the world in a week-long competition at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters.
Daniel joined JCT600 as a Ferrari apprentice in 2005 and graduated to technician after more than three years’ training and experience.
Having gained a total of seven years’ experience working across various Ferrari models, he was able to see off competition from seasoned veterans with decades of experience of servicing and repairing the sports cars.
Daniel won a Ferrari watch as well as the opportunity to visit the home of the famous racing car, a boyhood dream come true for him.
He said: “To win this title is amazing and I still can’t believe that I am the No1 in Northern Europe, but I just can’t wait to get to the home of Ferrari in December and challenge for the world title.”
David Clapham, brand director for JCT600 Brooklands, said: “We are hugely proud that a JCT600 technician from Yorkshire should beat all comers from dealerships in so many countries, and it underlines the quality of our team here.
“The dealership also came top in the UK and third overall out of dozens of Ferrari service centres which is a massive achievement, demonstrating that we have some of the brand’s most knowledgeable technicians on our team.”
