Steve McNamara has promised his confidence-battered Bulls will transform in the second half of Super League XIV.

They suffered another demoralising defeat last night, losing 18-10 at Salford City Reds.

After going down against Celtic Crusaders last Sunday, they have now lost back-to-back against the competition’s bottom two and slipped to 12th, with Salford leapfrogging them in the table.

But McNamara insisted: “As a group, we’re at the halfway point now. We’ve played 13 games and have 14 games left in this competition.

“Without a doubt, we’re not where we expected to be or would like to be but probably where we deserve to be because we haven’t quite finished some sides off.

“We will address and attack the second half of the season though with the same enthusiasm and confidence we started the season off and I’m sure you’ll see a whole different second half to the season from the Bulls.”

Luckless Bradford should have won last night’s encounter, having led 4-0 until the 54th minute.

They had already seen Mike Worrincy, Andy Lynch and Julien Rinaldi all fail to get the ball down over the line, with Chris Nero also held up before Salford hit them with a quickfire triple whammy.

McNamara admitted he felt at least one try should have been awarded.

“I thought with Andy Lynch at the start of the second half, the in-goal touch judge awarded the try,” he said.

“Someone on the touchline intervened though, then it went back to the in-goal touch judge and it wasn’t given.

“I’m not hiding behind that whatsoever but it looks a strange one at the time and obviously we’ve not got the big screen and video ref.

“We created some opportunities, particularly in the first half where we put it down a couple of times and twice in the second. At 4-0, that pushes us a long way in front and I think we’d have gone on and won.

“It was a very tough match and for the large majority we were in control but Salford got a couple of chances and took them, while we never did and paid the price.”

McNamara was pleased with his side’s application though after their poor attitude versus Celtic.

“We did a lot of good things and the effort from players was very good,” he said.

“But a couple of things really kicked us in backside and we just didn’t execute a couple of things.

“We’ve certainly not won enough games to give us that real edge at this moment in time and until we do – I’m sure we will – we’re a little bit edgy.”
