Two-try winger Ethan Hawksworth made sure the Bulls Academy kept up their impressive form with a 30-12 win amid atrocious conditions at Widnes.

Backing up from their rout of Leeds, Basil Richards’ side battled hard in driving rain and strong winds to secure another triumph.

Centre Robert Hawthorne got them off the mark, using his strength to cross in the corner, before Hawksworth dived in for his first.

Hooker Jake Senior came off the bench to score a trademark effort from dummy half but Joe Wardle could not improve any of these tries, such was the force of the wind Bradford were playing into.

Although Widnes went over next, Hawksworth bagged his double and James Donaldson took over kicking duties to make it 18-6 at the break.

Scrum half Liam Kay crossed after the interval and although Widnes responded, Donaldson completed the job with a four-pointer and converted both times.

The Academy entertain Salford City Reds on Saturday at Grattan Stadium, kicking off at 2pm.

Meanwhile, the Bulls Reserve Grade also picked up a win, overcoming Celtic Crusaders 14-10 in more torrential rain.

Winger Jessjo Sheriffe – younger brother of Rikki – and Johnny Horton scored tries, with Karl Wroe adding a conversion.

Celtic hit back to make it 10-4 at the turnaround but Elliott Whitehead nipped in after 70 minutes to settle the nerves.

The Crusaders capitalised on a Bulls error to make it more tense but the hosts held on.

They visit Salford in the curtain-raiser to Friday night’s Super League game at The Willows, kick-off 5.45pm.
