After their embarrassing no-show at Wigan, Bulls star Steve Menzies today urged: Judge us on our reaction.

The Australian is still awaiting his first Super League victory since signing from Manly, with Bradford slipping to their worst start in the summer era.

Three matches without a win, capped off by Saturday’s 44-10 mauling by the Warriors, is not the kick-off he envisaged.

But double NRL Grand Final winner Menzies said: “I’ve been in teams beaten worse than that before.

“It’s never good when the scoreboard starts ticking over in the wrong direction but the team has got to stick together.

“There’s going to be some tough times ahead but every team has them. It’s whether you come around and out of them that counts.

“It’s the way we emerge from it that shows the will and strength of the squad. The challenge has been thrown back to us and now we’ll see how we respond.”

The experienced Menzies, one of the few to perform, was at a loss to explain the size of the Warriors defeat.

He said: “The last couple of games had been close and we thought we’d prepared well for Wigan but we just didn’t turn up on the night.

“Sometimes that happens but there’s no excuse for it. Hopefully it’s given us the kick in the pants we need to get going.

“Everyone was down afterwards. We’d been out-enthused and beaten to the punch for most of the match.

“It was a pretty sombre bus on the way home and hopefully that feeling will still be there when we run out against Hull on Sunday. None of us want to experience it again.”

Menzies, the second highest try-scorer in Australian history, did get his first Super League four-pointer at the death.

He said: “It wasn’t the most memorable given the circumstances but it’s good to break the duck for Bradford.”
