Beleaguered Steve McNamara will demand answers from his battered Bulls side after their awful defeat at Wigan.

Woeful Bradford crashed 44-10 on Saturday night to make their worst-ever start to a Super League season.

The Odsal boss looked shocked by the manner of his team’s capitulation as they hopelessly conceded seven tries and offered nothing going forward.

They lie third from bottom after picking up just a single point from their first three matches and McNamara admitted: “It hurts like hell, I won’t deny that. I’m desperately disappointed with the performance.

“In the first two games – albeit we never chalked up a win – what we showed was a whole host of very encouraging signs.

“This, though, is a big setback in every department. We were very flat. It was right from the start and it’s something we have to look into.

“Wigan were far too good for us and had far more energy, which really disappointed me. There was no energy or intensity in our game and I need to get to the bottom of why that was.

“We were way off. It was one of those nights where everything went wrong. We were poor in every department, there was a whole host of problems and a lot for us to look at and fix up.”

To add to their misery, the Bulls endured more injury woe, with Wayne Godwin breaking his leg in the second half.

The hooker now faces at least two months on the sidelines, while Semi Tadulala also limped away with a hamstring strain.

Under-pressure McNamara said: “We’d been very physical against Hull KR and Huddersfield but at Wigan we saw none of those signs.

“A lack of possession and squandering what we did have hurt us as well.

“The Grand Final is a million miles away from where we’re at now but I’ve been involved in sides before, including at this club, where we’ve got our backsides kicked by bigger scorelines than that and come back to win competitions.

“Losing by a scoreline like that probably actually helps us in some way, rather than it being a close one. It gives us the real kick up the backside we need.”

Next up are McNamara’s former club Hull FC on Sunday, the surprise Super League front-runners having won all four games so far.
