City are casting an eye over former Cameroon international defender Gustave Bahoken.
Stuart McCall has been looking for cover at right back for Paul Arnison since releasing TJ Moncur at the end of last month.
Bahoken, 29, is spending the week on trial at Valley Parade and is likely to play for the reserves against Scunthorpe tomorrow.
He is currently a free agent following three years playing for Aalesund in Norway.
But McCall knows of Bahoken from two spells he spent with Livingston in the Scottish Premier League.
The City boss said: “The agent came on at the beginning of the season about looking at the player but we’d just got TJ in as well as Arny.
“But he’s without a club at the minute and is paying his own way over, so I’m happy to give him a go.
“We’ll play him in the reserves and see how it goes.”
Bahoken can operate anywhere along the back line as well as a defensive midfielder but McCall is in the market for another right back as back-up for Arnison.
He added: “I put Simon Ainge in there for one game and he did all right. But he’s not an orthodox right back and looks more comfortable in the middle.”
Bahoken signed professional in France at 19 with Rouen, also playing for Le Havre before joining Livingston in 2002.
He just missed out on the Cameroon World Cup squad that year but made his international debut 12 months later against USA in the Confederations Cup.
Bahoken appeared in the UEFA Cup with Livingston before returning to France a year later at Angers. He returned to Scotland for the 2004-2005 season. The defender once accidentally broke Henrik Larsson’s jaw in a game against Celtic.
Bahoken is also a bit of a cult hero on Youtube for the Norwegian clip against Lyn Oslo when he ran out of the wall at a free-kick and booted the ball away before it had been taken, copying the famous Zaire incident in the 1974 World Cup
- City’s postponed game at Bournemouth has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 17.
