Flying City are primed to be Shot at when they put their 100 per cent record on the line tomorrow.

City head to new boys Aldershot aiming to make it four wins in a row at the top of League Two.

It will be the first clash between the sides since 1982 but Wayne Jacobs knows exactly what to expect from the Recreation Ground.

The Bantams number two made the last of his 553 starts as a player away to the Hampshire club, going down 3-1 with Halifax in January 2006.

Aldershot romped to the Blue Square Premier crown by a whopping 15 points last term and have lost only one home game in 27 since last August.

Jacobs warned: “Aldershot play high-tempo football and are strong, pacy and well-organised. Martin Kuhl and Gary Waddock, their coaching staff, took no prisoners as players and never gave an inch and they’ve instilled that into their team.

“The ground has a good little atmosphere and their fans are very passionate and always singing. We’re under no illusions about how difficult this game is going to be but we’re full of confidence and looking forward to it.”

City can expect a good backing for the long haul and Jacobs is delighted to see the fans relishing the best opening to a campaign for seven years.

He said: “It’s natural with what the club have been through. Sitting at the right end of the league is a nice change and I’m glad people are excited.

“We’d love to make it four wins out of four and to keep the run going but it’s our job to stay sober on it and remember there is a lot of hard work needed. We’ve had a good start but, in truth, that’s all it’s been – a start.”

Stuart McCall, who is expected to stick with the side that beat Rochdale, is guarding against complacency after Aldershot ran early leaders Shrewsbury close last week.

He said: “It’s the start we were dreaming of but I remember the last time we won three in a row like this in our first season back down from the Premiership and we ended up finishing mid-table. You cannot afford to relax for a moment.

“By all accounts Aldershot were unlucky to lose at Shrewsbury and no doubt they will be looking forward to trying to knock us off the perch.

“We don’t want to become complacent because that’s when you get beaten. If we go out with the right attitude and application, there’s no doubt we’ve got ability and quality throughout the team.

“We know the rewards are there if you’re prepared to put the hard work in. There’s nothing better at the end of the season than being involved in a successful side.

“Nobody will tell me that Sir Alex Ferguson will get more pleasure if they win the league than I will if we’re promoted. He won’t feel any better than I will or these players – you can’t beat that experience and it’s what we’re all striving for.”

Aldershot have made a solid start with four points from their opening three games.

But former Halifax hitman John Grant, who netted 21 times to spearhead last season’s promotion, is yet to get off the mark in league football. He missed a one-on-one chance at Shrewsbury just minutes before Grant Holt struck the winner at the other end.

Grant’s early drought is becoming a concern for boss Waddock, who has seen his side score only once from open play so far.

But there will be no re-union with Ben Starosta, who played 15 games for City on loan last season. The right back started the campaign with the Shots but last night returned to parent club Sheffield United.

The game is no longer all-ticket for travelling fans.
