Glenn Morrison is hoping he has not ended the Bulls career of team-mate Terry Newton.
The Aussie suffered a clash of heads with Newton which left his colleague with a suspected fractured cheekbone in Saturday’s win at Harlequins.
Newton – who, like Morrison, is leaving Odsal for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at the end of the season – saw a specialist yesterday to see how bad the injury is.
He is now awaiting reports back but if he needs an operation he could be out for six to eight weeks – missing the rest of the campaign and meaning he will not pull on the Bradford shirt again.
“He wasn’t looking too good after the game and if it comes back it is broken then that could be it for him with the Bulls,” said Morrison.
“Me and Deacs had got Jon Wells tackled and Tez came in to finish off third man in.
“He went straight into my head. I’ve got a good old lump on my forehead but he’s definitely come worse off!
“I told him he was dirty coming in third man anyway and then he cleaned me out instead!
“It doesn’t look good for him but hopefully, fingers crossed, it won’t be too bad.”
If Newton’s season is over, it brings a close to his four-year stay at Odsal and denies him the chance of making 100 appearances for the club.
The win at Quins was his 97th match in Bulls colours since joining from Wigan Warriors at the end of 2005 and, with four fixtures remaining, he was on course to surpass a ton.
Newton, 30, has also been ever-present this term and Morrison – a team-mate for the last three years – admits the experienced rake has had a great presence during his time with Bradford.
He said: “Tez is a top player. He’s a Great Britain international and when he’s on the field he talks up things a lot, calls a lot of the plays and directs the team around the park.
“He does a good job for us. There’s a lot of people just think of him as a cheap shot because of some of the headlines he’s had in the past but he is a quality player and a great bloke to have around the side.
“For me, I’ll get to have another year with him at Wakey and hopefully we can get a good combination going there too.”
Meanwhile, the Bulls Academy are in action against Wakefield at Odsal tonight, kick-off 8pm.
