Rookie Bulls centre Sam Wood has signed a new deal keeping him at the club until the end of 2016.

The 19-year-old became a full-time professional at the start of the season and made a try-scoring debut against Rochdale in the Challenge Cup before appearing three times in Super League.

Wood also impressed as captain of the Bulls’ Academy side, and Francis Cummins sees the teenager as a key figure in his plans.

The Bulls head coach said: “The new deal is a reward for Sam's hard work and effort.

“He has been absolutely brilliant after earning a couple of opportunities in Super League and we believe he will only get better from here.

“He is developing superbly and, having captained the under-19s, I feel he has a big future here.

“His commitment has been fantastic and he is only going to further improve.”

Wood spoke of his delight in committing himself to the Bulls.

He said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have been offered a new deal to stay at Bradford.

“This is the club I want to be at and so there was zero hesitation when it came to re-signing.

“I think this could be the start of something very special for me and I want nothing more than to succeed as a Bradford Bulls player.

“I have played a few Super League games now and I am hungry for more.

“Next season will be full of opportunity, with players fighting it out for spots in the team, and I am ready for the challenge.

“Pre-season training is going really well and I am loving being around the first-team squad full-time.

“Some of the players who have come in are very exciting and hugely talented.

“And I believe there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about 2014.”
