Former Bradford City player Malcolm Devitt has died aged 74 after a fall in Cyprus.
Local boy Devitt made 110 appearances for the club between 1959 and 1963, scoring 14 goals. He made his debut at Colchester at right half but went on to make his mark as an inside left.
Friend Peter Matthews wrote that, as a very young boy, Devitt would be taken before school by his father Bernard to practise at Myra Shay off Barkerend Road.
He started playing for St Peter’s RC School and was selected for Bradford Boys. During national service in the RAF, Devitt played regularly with West Bromwich Albion before joining City.
He left Valley Parade to join Wisbech Town and relocated the family there for the next 40 years.
Devitt retired in 2004 to Paphos with his wife Josephine, daughter Teresa and son-in-law Andy.
Sadly he fell from a ladder while doing some maintenance work to one of their holiday lets and never recovered from the resultant brain injury.
Besides his widow and daughter, he also leaves a son Andrew and several grand- children.
