Peter Jackson will be putting his best foot forward tomorrow as City head to the hills for charity.

Jackson, assistant boss Colin Cooper and club captain Lee Bullock are among the 60-strong band of volunteers aiming to scale the famous Three Peaks in the Yorkshire Dales.

The walk, taking in the peaks at Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent, hopes to raise £5,000 for the Bradford Burns Unit. It has been organised by assistant kitman Graham Duckworth, who is no stranger to clocking up the blisters for the cause.

Duckworth spent last New Year’s Eve making the 73-mile trek between Valley Parade and Lincoln’s Sincil Bank, where City were playing the next day.

The total route this time is only about a third of that – but with over 7,000 feet of climbs thrown in.

Duckworth said: “I’ve not done it before but apparently the first one is the worst and you have to scramble up the top. You have to do the whole walk in 12 hours to join the Three Peaks club. A lot of people have told me it’s harder than you think but if you only do one of them then that’s still an achievement.

“It’s a very good cause and it’s great to get so many people involved. I raised nearly £7,000 for the Lincoln walk and money is still coming in and we’re hoping to raise £5,000 this time.

“We’ve also got Bantamstrek wristbands on sale in the ticket office so anything helps.”

T&A columnist Bullock has been wearing in his new walking boots in the Lake District. The midfielder said: “I’ve had them on every day so hopefully they’ll be comfortable. I’d imagine it could get quite competitive – I’m sure Coops will try to win it!”

The day will start early with a 5am pick-up at Valley Parade – which has not gone down well in some quarters.

Duckworth laughed: “The gaffer’s not too impressed with that. It didn’t take much persuasion to get him involved but now I think he’s regretting it a bit.

“But fair play to him for bringing some of his family as well. I believe Colin’s also coming along with four or five others so it’s going to be a real family event.”
