Jake Speight will be sticking with Port Vale until the new year.
The striker’s one-month loan with the League Two top dogs is up but City have agreed to extend it until January 1.
Speight, though, cannot play in the FA Cup home game with Accrington tomorrow night.
He was not allowed to feature in the first round against Dartford while City were still in the competition.
But despite their exit at Colchester, his parent club’s block on the £25,000 summer signing being cup-tied remains in place.
It suggests that City could be open to offers in the January transfer window for Speight, who came off the bench to score his first Vale goal as the new leaders hammered Stockport 5-0 on Tuesday.
He had previously netted once for the Bantams in the Carling Cup loss to Preston back in August.
Peter Taylor confirmed: “We’re going to extend his deal but we don’t want him cup-tied. That doesn’t help his value in that respect.”
Speight’s former Valley Parade team-mates were hauled in for an extra training session yesterday as Taylor demonstrated his displeasure over the first-half no show against Accrington.
Despite bouncing back to draw, the Bantams boss was fuming about the opening 45 minutes.
“The first half was not acceptable. We looked nervous again and it went back to the old days – I thought we had overcome that.
“I can’t understand it, especially with the way we finished off the game the previous Saturday.
“We’ve got a really poor habit at the minute of giving goals away. Rob Kiernan gave one away on Saturday and Tom Adeyemi did it the other night.
“We’re always going a goal down, which makes it a harder task in the second half. You’ve got to show real bottle to come back.”
