Jason Price was set to bolster Bradford City’s attack today by signing on loan from Greg Abbott’s Carlisle.
The 6ft 2in Welshman will answer the prayers of his former Hull boss Peter Taylor after a lengthy search to bring in another striker.
Price is expected to go straight into contention for Saturday’s Valley Parade clash with Cheltenham.
The 33-year-old played under Taylor at Hull from 2003 to 2006 and scored 13 goals in 75 league appearances.
He can operate as a winger or in midfield but Carlisle have used him chiefly as an ungainly but effective targetman – the role he will be handed by City as James Hanson continues his recovery.
Price netted four goals in eight games at the end of last season on loan at the Cumbrians from Millwall.
Abbott signed him on a one-year deal in the summer but he has fallen down the pecking order behind young prospect Gary Madine.
Price has been restricted to four outings from the bench, including last week in the JPT against Port Vale when he scored – before admitting: “My overall display was a bit atrocious.”
He said: “I’m pleased I scored but my touches were everywhere and I was disappointed with my display.
“It’s not as if I can go knocking on the manager’s door and ask why I’m not in the team.”
Carlisle have agreed to let Price out to City after bringing in Mike Grella from Leeds. The American was reported to have turned down the chance of joining the Bantams on loan last month.
Abbott said: “With Jason going to Bradford and Mike coming to us, we think that this will be a big benefit to all three clubs and to the players involved.”
Meanwhile, Mark Lawn has responded to Taylor’s comments about the “unhealthy” situation caused by the speculation regarding his managerial future.
The City joint-chairman said: “We have conversations with Peter on a regular basis and don’t believe there is a problem.”
