Guiseley’s run in the FA Cup came to a juddering halt at Nethermoor on Saturday as big-spending Crawley Town eased into the second round.
The Lions players were applauded onto the pitch and cheered off it but having been on the wrong end of a heavy first-round defeat.
Crawley’s excellent travelling support were making all the noise after a 5-0 win, in which former Bantams winger Scott Neilson was on target.
Brave Guiseley were swept aside but boss Steve Kittrick said: “I’m still very proud of the lads because it was them who got us here.
“Losing is something we have almost forgotten about and it will be a test of character for us to bounce back.
“Crawley are a very good side and have a good manager in Steve Evans. He has had us watched and they put a couple of men on Warren Peyton in our midfield and they have kept Jamie Walshaw quiet.
“The only disappointment for me is that we didn’t perform on the day. Anyone that has seen us play will know that we are entertainers and we like to pass and get forward but in this game we failed to do that.
“You can’t take anything away from Crawley’s display but I don’t think we deserved to lose by five. That is the first time a side I have been in charge of has lost by more than three and it hurts.”
