Vanarama National League: Bromley 2 Guiseley 0
BROMLEY substitute Bradley Goldberg came on late in the second half to transform a dull game, his brace inside the last 20 minutes meaning that the home side banked all three points.
They were goals worthy of winning any match, and Guiseley keeper Dan Atkinson can console himself in the knowledge that not many keepers would have kept either out.
But there was no consolation for the Lions as a whole as they hover dangerously close to the drop zone.
Goldberg replaced Moses Emmanuel in the 65th minute, and just five minutes later he rose to powerfully head home Lee Minshill’s cross from the left.
Seven minutes from time, Goldberg put the gloss on Bromley’s win with an excellent strike from the edge of the area that flew into the top corner.
Following the goalless first half, Rohdell Gordon really should have opened the scoring for the home side.
His initial shot was parried by Atkinson but he inexplicably fired wide from the rebound with the goal gaping.
Will Hatfield came closest for Guiseley with a shot that cannoned off the bar when the score was 0-0.
Disappointed Guiseley boss Mark Bower said: “It was a bobbly pitch and both sides struggled to create anything.
"There was nothing of note in the first half. We spoke about Dicko (Liam Dickinson) being up there on his own and talked about getting players up in support after the break but we didn’t come out of the traps in the second half.
“Will hit the bar, and if that goes in it’s a different game.
"We spoke at half-time about the first goal being all-important in a game like that but it’s come off the bar, and that just about sums up how it’s gone for us in front of goal recently.
“We then conceded a poor goal. It was a great header to be fair but we let their lad have three or four goes at getting the cross in. They picked us off after that and it was a poor, poor performance by us.
“As poor as we were though you have to give them (Bromley) credit for the way they played. We spoke in the dressing room after the game about picking ourselves up and going again.”
Guiseley are next in action against Grimsby Town at Nethermoor tomorrow, and the hosts are reminding supporters that the game is all-ticket, with no sales after today.
