Bradford Dragons coach Chris Mellor was delighted with the way his side bounced back from their National Cup disappointment as they beat Westminster Warriors 99-75.
The Dragons could easily have had a negative reaction to the cup quarter-final loss to EBL Division One high-fliers Brixton Topcats.
But instead they rallied to maintain their unbeaten league record and remain at the Division Two summit after a dominant win over their fellow pace-setters.
Mellor said: “It’s a good win for us. I was very confident I’d see a positive reaction from my team after the loss against Brixton and that is what I got.
“Westminster are a good team and Luke Baker, Junior Williams and Yannick Bulambwe caused us some problems defensively.
“But our intensity stayed strong and all 12 players contributed in one way or another. We played really well in the last quarter.”
The Warriors were also unbeaten going into the match and, after Bradford had taken an early seven-point lead, poor defensive rebounding enabled the Londoners to move 24-20 ahead at the first break.
It was not until midway through the second period that the Dragons were able to pull level at 34-34, with Mellor running the bench to get all players minutes on court.
But they then surged clear to establish a 48-39 advantage by half-time and were rarely troubled again.
The third period saw the Warriors battle hard to try and get back in touch, with successive three-pointers from Baker on the way to a game-high of 27 points helping reduce the deficit to 68-63.
But the final quarter saw Bradford overwhelm Westminster with a 31-12 surge as Daumants Pabrieza finished on six three-pointers in the game and Rihard Sulcs crashed the boards to score 11 baskets from 15 attempts.
Sulcs led the Dragons scoring with 23 points, while Pabrieza backed him up with 21 and Vance Silcott enjoyed a double double with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Tom Martin and Michal Ciesla added 12 points apiece.
The Dragons’ next home game is in the EBL Division Two Patrons Cup against Sheffield Arrows on Saturday at Trinity Green Sports Hall, Bradford College (6.15pm). Admission is £3 or £1.50 for concessions.
Meanwhile, Bradford’s third team lost 46-35 at home to York Vikings in Division One of the Leeds League. The club’s under-18s lost 70-49 and the under-16s went down 64-52, both at Tees Valley Mohawks.
