Bradford Park Avenue are mourning the loss of one of their most loyal servants.
Charlie Atkinson, who held the record for the most number of Football League appearances in an Avenue shirt, has died aged 77.
The much-loved stalwart, who was living in Pudsey, was president of the club before stepping down in 2007 due to ill-health.
Atkinson joined Avenue in July 1956 from his home-town club Hull City – for whom he played 37 times – and went on to make a record 339 Football League appearances for them.
Atkinson scored 50 goals in that time, playing mainly at wing half but also in other positions, before moving across town to Bradford City in June 1964.
He scored one goal in 16 appearances for the Bantams before retiring aged 32.
Atkinson – who also had trials for Yorkshire at cricket – had suffered from ill-health for several years after a fall when he cracked his skull and had to have a brain operation.
His funeral is on Tuesday, December 7 (11.40am) at Rawdon Crematorium.
