Three members of Leeds’ first-team squad will be on midweek international duty next week if they avoid injury against Bristol City today.

Striker Davide Somma, who was born in South Africa but brought up in America, has been selected by the South Africans for the first time, ironically against the USA.

Winger Max Gradel has also been called up by his country, the Ivory Coast, for the first time. He is in the provisional squad to visit Poland.

Left back George McCartney, who in on loan from Sunderland, completes the trio after being included in the squad for Northern Ireland’s match against Morocco at Windsor Park.

Leeds manager Simon Grayson said: “I am delighted that all three have been called up for their international groups because they have worked very hard.

“Max hadn’t figured much in Leicester’s team before coming to us, while Davide was loaned out to Lincoln last season to benefit his career and came back an improved player.

“And although George is not our player, we have given him the opportunity to play regular first-team football.

“Their call-ups show that they and the club are doing the right things.

“Unfortunately they won’t report back until Thursday or Friday, so our preparation for the game at Norwich on the Saturday will be hindered a bit.”
