Luke Oliver is keeping an open mind over the chance of winning a full-time deal at Valley Parade.
The towering defender aims to make the most of his regular run in the City side after his loan was extended until the end of the season.
Like many in the squad, Oliver’s future is unclear – his contract at Wycombe runs out in the summer.
Peter Taylor last week suggested he would be keen to keep the centre half and Adam Bolder. But Oliver is playing it straight as he waits for firm news.
He said: “It’s definitely positive to hear that but I’ve not been told anything myself.
“I’m sure if the gaffer feels it’s right, he’ll talk to me and I’ll make a decision then.
“He brought me here and I’m more than happy to be playing. I’m trying to impress each week to stay in the team.
“Sometimes if you’re not involved in promotion or relegation, subconsciously losing isn’t such a big deal but at the same time you’re playing for your livelihood.
“You want to do well for the team but they aren’t going to pay your mortgage – that’s down to you. There are a lot of players coming out of contract so there is plenty still at stake.”
Oliver has been press-ganged into the role of make-shift targetman in the last two games.
With no James Hanson, the centre half has been thrown forward to offer a similar threat in the air.
And the move paid off instantly against Macclesfield with a goal just minutes after making the switch – his first appearance on the scoresheet for two years.
But Oliver is no stranger to the position after similar emergency shifts during his Conference days.
He said: “It’s been done before and always when we’re losing. I don’t think it’s for my technical skills!
“But I think I can add something a bit different up there without James (Hanson).
“He’s been a massive player for us recently and I’ve been very impressed with him, especially his aerial ability.”
