The planned Twenty20 fixture between Leeds United and Lashings at Elland Road has been postponed.
The call-off was agreed with the all-star Lashings club as a suitable artificial surface to form the wicket could not be found. Other options were available but it was felt that these could compromise the quality of the game, which would not be fair for paying supporters.
The club will instead look to host a game at the end of the football season before pitch renovations are undertaken.
United chief executive officer Shaun Harvey said: “We were assured that a pitch solution was available. However, having had the wicket tested on the pitch at Elland Road, it was not suitable and risked damage to the pitch.
“We appreciate that this is disappointing news but we did not feel comfortable that supporters would receive value for money. “We will look to restage the game at the end of our season. The ticket office will be in touch with supporters to arrange refunds.”
