Bulls star Steve Menzies has told his manager to try and secure him a new contract at Odsal.
Reports in the Aussie press last weekend said the legendary player could move back to Manly in 2010.
But Menzies, 35, today insisted if he does carry on playing, he wants to do it in Bulls colours.
The former Australian Test ace had initially felt he would retire at the end of this campaign, having signed just a one-year deal.
However, he has been in terrific form so far in Super League XIV and admits he would now like to extend his career – having fallen in love with Bradford.
“I am really enjoying it here,” said Menzies. “And the family are really enjoying it too; she keeps kicking me in the belly saying, ‘go play another a year!’ “Being a Manly figure and going out like I did over there I never thought it could get any better but I’ve loved it at Bradford.
“The way I’m feeling I’d like to do another season and I’ve told my manager I want to try and go again with the Bulls.
“Obviously I’ve got to talk to the club and see if they want me.
“They might have other avenues but I really enjoy it here. Hopefully I can have a southern hemisphere club and a northern hemisphere club!”
Being an NRL legend and living god back at Manly, Menzies still has a weekly column in Sydney’s Sunday Herald paper, despite now thrilling Super League crowds.
It was on the back of that the rumours started circling that he could be returning to the Sea Eagles, where he had spent his entire career before switching to England.
“I do a column back home and they asked how I was feeling,” Menzies explained.
“I said I was feeling good and wouldn’t mind playing another season.
“We’d just played four games in 13 days, probably the toughest part of the year, but the body’s holding up all right and mentally I feel pretty good too.
“I said I’m really enjoying it here and, if I’m going to play on, I love Bradford, the club, the players and the coaching staff.
“If I’ve a chance of playing on, there’s a good chance I’m staying at Bradford as I’m not going to go running around everywhere over here.
“But they didn’t put that part in the paper – they used the bit about playing another year and the headline was Menzies plans NRL comeback!
“They’ve asked Manly this and that but I never intended to put pressure on Manly or say to the people back home that I want to come back.
“I’ve said it numerous times; it’s great here at Bradford.”
Ever-present Menzies has scored six tries in ten games so far and proved a big hit with his punishing defence and silky attacking play.
Although the club has endured a miserable start, he has effortlessly made the transition from the NRL and his versatility has been vital given the club’s injury-hit start.
“It took a little bit of getting used to as the game is definitely different,” he said.
“It’s got a couple of gears. Sometimes it’s a quick game and then sometimes it’s slowed down.
“You’ve got to get used to reacting to the play-the-ball but the last couple of weeks and few games I’ve been pretty happy with how it’s gone personally.”
Menzies will now wait to see if an offer comes his way.
“I suppose it depends on Bradford and they’ve got to work out next year as a few players are coming off contract.
“Hopefully it won’t be too long but I’ve told my manager that’s what I want to do.”
