TEENAGER Reece Staunton will not get his head turned by becoming the youngest player in City's history.
The 15-year-old defender set a new club record when he came off the bench in last night's 3-0 Checkatrade Trophy defeat to Rotherham at Valley Parade.
Staunton has not even trained with the senior squad before – but assistant boss Kenny Black is confident the youngster will not be affected by the new-found attention.
He said: "Reece will be fine with that. He won't get carried away.
"The lad will have enjoyed that experience but we won't be putting any pressure on him and it would be unfair if anyone else did.
"It's a big step-up for him. Last week he played in the under-18 team that lost in the FA Youth Cup.
"He can play centre back and left back and the club have got high hopes for him.
"He'll just go about his business and hopefully he's got a long and fruitful career ahead of him."
Staunton was not the only young debutant for the Bantams – 16-year-old midfielder Jake Maltby was another late substitute.
But the loss in their final group game was watched by just 931 fans, a new low for a competitive game at Valley Parade.
They saw a poor contest which was settled by the interval as the Millers took control with three first-half goals.
Black said: "Their more experienced players did better than ours.
"Games like this are a chance for players to showcase their talents but sometimes you get nights when it doesn't really happen.
"We wanted to top the group with a 100 per cent record. But it was a mixed squad again, as we have done in previous games in this competition.
"The two wins we had gave us the opportunity to try a few things.
"You look at the bigger picture and the introduction of the two youngsters and they showed some nice flashes. It was good to get them involved."
Timothee Dieng was taken off as a precaution with a tight hamstring but City are hopeful that he should be okay for the weekend visit from Plymouth.
