YORKSHIRE'S seamers kept it tight on the third afternoon of their Specsavers County Championship Division One game against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
Having been bowled out for 290, thereby giving them a lead of 29, the visitors restricted the home side to 47-2 at tea after 25 overs of tough cricket.
First batsman to go in the home side’s second innings was Steven Mullaney, who was lbw to David Willey for two in the first over.
That set the tone for the afternoon’s play as Andrew Gale’s bowlers kept the pressure on but enjoyed only one more success, when Greg Smith was bowled for 17 by Steve Patterson playing no shot to a ball which came back markedly from outside the off stump.
When the players came in early because of bad light, Alex Hales was 17 not out off 76 balls and former Yorkshire player Michael Lumb was unbeaten on nine off 25.
Earlier in the session, Yorkshire had lost their last two wickets, Patterson being caught by Ball at mid-wicket off Samit Patel for a single and Liam Plunkett being pouched at deep square leg by Smith off Jackson Bird for 51 the ball after reaching his fifty.
