Yorkshire lost four wickets on the third morning of their Specsavers County Championship Division One match against Nottinghamshire but also achieved an 18-run first-innings lead, partly thanks to some strong hitting by Liam Plunkett, who was 42 not out at lunch.
Andrew Gale’s team were 279-8 when the players came in, and the biggest disappointment of the first session was Alex Lees’s dismissal for 92, caught by Chris Read off Harry Gurney in the third over of the morning.
The White Rose skipper then added 43 with Adil Rashid before he nicked Jake Ball’s third delivery of the day to Steven Mullaney and departed for 44.
Rashid followed for 19 half-an-hour later when he hit Samit Patel straight to Ball at deep square-leg.
However, Plunkett took 16 off a Stuart Broad over and saw his team safely past Nottinghamshire’s first-innings total of 261.
Five minutes before the break, David Willey was caught behind off Jackson Bird for 18, but while Plunkett and Steve Patterson remain at the crease, Yorkshire have every chance of extending their lead.
