City pulled the plug on tomorrow's friendly at Farsley because of the state of the Throstle Nest pitch.
Phil Parkinson confirmed they were unhappy with the surface and were not prepared to risk playing on it.
He said: "We sent our groundsman up there before we left for Ireland and he said it was unfit to play on. There were divots in some areas which could be dangerous.
"We were prepared to keep the game on as long as they did some work to improve it while we were away. But a member of the coaching staff checked today and nothing has been done."
City will instead send a stronger team to Ossett Town, where they had originally scheduled a youth fixture.
