Brighouse Town’s home defeat to Baris Northern Counties East League Premier Division leaders Scarborough Athletic has all but extinguished their dreams of promotion to the Evo-Stik League.
The Seadogs’ 2-0 victory at the Dual Seal Stadium not only strengthened their grip on top spot but also made them odds on favourites to land the one promotion place available.
Second-half goals from Ryan Blott and former Bradford Park Avenue man Jimmy Beadle were enough for the visitors to claim the win in front of a crowd of 1,059 and that lifted them nine points clear at the summit.
Town have two games in hand but an inferior goal difference, so Scarborough need just one win from their two remaining games to be assured of the title.
Town’s neighbours Thackley and Liversedge both suffered defeats.
Liversedge lost 1-0 at third-placed Bridlington Town, with Craig Hogg’s 65th-minute strike proving the difference between the sides.
Thackley were beaten 2-1 at fifth-placed Retford United as goals from Adam Scott and Gavin Cooper came before Matt Mathers hit back for the Dennyboys.
Albion Sports remain on target to join the trio in the top tier next season as they stayed top of Division One with a 5-0 win at mid-table Clipstone Welfare.
Karl Hall opened the scoring and Danny Facey added in the first half. Tate Williams and Charlie Flaherty then netted in the final quarter-hour before Facey bagged his second.
Eccleshill United suffered a 2-1 home defeat to promotion-chasing Cleethorpes Town.
The visitors struck first through Marc Cooper and although Alex Rouse equalised in the 67th minute, Cooper hit the winner ten minutes from time.
* Silsden earned a point in their quest for North West Counties League Premier Division survival with a 2-2 draw at fifth-placed Winsford United.
The Cheshire side took the lead through Charlie Anderson but Chris Wademan levelled after the break and the Cobbydalers led through a Joe Jalil goal before Andy Hurst’s equaliser three minutes from time.
