People in Bradford are urged to switch off their unused gadgets and lights as part of a national campaign to reduce the amount of energy used.
Energy Saving Day is being held across the country between 6pm today and the same time tomorrow and Bradford Council is supporting the initiative.
On E-Day people are being asked to switch off lights and household electrical items which do not need to be left on, and to leave these items off for as long as possible in order to save energy and reduce their carbon footprint.
Research by uSwitch.com, the comparison and switching service, shows that consumers are wasting electricity by over-charging their gadgets. Nationally they found: l more than nine million households charge up their gadgets overnight l more than 22 million mobiles are needlessly charged up every day with "comfort charging" accounting for at least 14.1 billion wasted energy hours a year l 43 per cent of consumers admit to leaving their television on constant standby, but 53 per cent leave their digital TV set top and 40 per cent their PC on standby too.
Bradford Council is supporting the event. The Council is reminding staff to switch off unnecessary lights and equipment as they leave, when not in use and during breaks.
