The life of one of the district's highly-regarded politicians is to be remembered in a lecture at the University of Bradford.
Helen Rabagliati MBE (1851-1934) was a leading figure in local conservative women's politics in the first decades of the 20th century.
The wife of Bradford-based Scottish doctor Andrea Rabagliati, she was President of Ben Rhydding Women's Unionist Association for 28 years and of the Wharfedale Conservative Women's Club for several years after World War One.
Helen's family, the McLarens, fought to achieve votes for women. In the lecture, Doctor Jo Stanley will explore the mystery of why Helen came to appear to increasingly take the opposite road politically.
The illustrated talk takes place on Friday April 27, from 10.30am to noon. Everyone is welcome to attend for a £3 fee. To find out more, call (01274) 233217 or 232313, or e-mail scu@bradford.ac.uk.
