Bradford Council has promised to repair damage to a football field after the “messed up” state of the pitch provoked anger.
One Oakenshaw resident has accused the Council of “ruining the football pitch” at Victoria Park.
Harry Metcalfe, 66, said that attempts by the Council to rectify the damage had made it look like there had been a “wrecking crew” in the park, on Cleckheaton Road.
Mr Metcalfe, a retired warehouse worker, who uses the park every day to walk his dog, said that problems started when Council workers brought two tractors up to roll the turf on the pitch and level it out.
Because they did it at the start of February when there was snow on the ground, it proved to be too difficult so they left it until the weather improved. But not before creating two 20ft long trenches 1ft deep, according to Mr Metcalfe.
“They have absolutely messed it up. I called the Council after the first bit of damage and they reassured me that they would talk to their sub-contractor who would repair the damage and fix it,” he said.
“I rang them up again after three weeks because no one had been out and I said that they had not repaired it, and the Council said that the weather was not good enough.
“They managed to send the tractor out on Thursday and it has actually made the problem even worse and left lumps of mud everywhere.
“They have ruined it. The Council is talking about cutbacks and saving money, then do work like this. That football pitch is used most weekends, but it is not usable now.”
Ian Wood, the Council’s principal manager for parks and green spaces, told the Telegraph & Argus, when approached for comment: “The damage to the field will be repaired as soon as the weather improves and the land dries out.”
