He won the hearts of millions of TV viewers and now he’s won more fans in Bradford.
Schoolboy Andrew Johnston who shot to stardom in Britain’s Got Talent took centre stage at the city’s Cathedral tonight.
For one night only, the 14-year-old swapped his home cathedral in Carlisle where he was head chorister to sing at Bradford Cathedral for Bradford Council’s carol concert – revived after five years.
A large audience packed the building and even those who could not make the one-hour long service would have managed to catch a glimpse of it being beamed on to the Big Screen in Centenary Square.
Andrew, who landed a record deal with Simon Cowell after coming third in the TV contest, has just released his debut album.
The teenager said: “I’ve been touring all over the country this last week but I’m happy to be in Bradford – thank you for inviting me.”
There will be another festive celebration in the Cathedral tomorrow at 7.30pm when there will be a service for asylum seekers and their supporters.
The International Carol Service is being organised by West Yorkshire Ecumenical Council and the Cathedral, together with asylum seeker and refugee support groups from across the county.
