The Bradford Family History Society has handed over £5,500 to Bradford Central Library to buy a digital scanner after promising the cash on condition the Central Library was refurbished.
The Central Library is in the process of being refurbished with three floors to be updated and brought back into use later this year, at which time the scanner will be available for use.
The scanner will allow members of the Society and other researchers and students to scan images from microfiche, micro film, or slide images.
These scanned images can then be viewed more clearly than with present equipment.
At last Thursday’s meeting of the Society at Shipley Library, the promise was honoured and a cheque for £5,500 was presented by acting chairman of the BFHS, Ken Kenzie, to Sue Caton, of Bradford Central’s local studies department.
