SIR - Re the T&A article about use of bike lanes.

Cycle lanes are a great idea when they work well. However, all too often they are full of litter, including broken glass, or have cars parked in them, or come to a sudden stop, leaving the cyclist exposed on a busy road.

Or they are shared with buses which doesn't work for either the bus or the bicycle, or poorly maintained with raised or blocked drains .

More people would happily cycle if it was safer. And many cyclists are also car drivers, so want to find a good way of jointly using the roads .
