TRACTORS are such a passion for a Haworth man that he even organised an event from his hospital bed.

Stanley Turner, a Haworth milkman, has been helping organise the Haworth Tractor run, held usually twice a year since it began in 2000.

All the proceeds collected goes to charity and the two which have benefited from many thousands of pounds raised in recent years are the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Manorlands Hospice, in Oxenhope.

Just before Christmas last year Mr Turner was involved in a life threatening accident involving his own tractor. It left him with a broken sternum, 11 broken ribs and many cuts and bruises.

But he still rallied round from his high dependency bed in Airedale General Hospital to ensure the Boxing Day tractor run still went ahead.

EVEN though he is only eight, Ashley not only wanted to raise some money for the homeless, he wanted to do it in such a way that improved the environment.

His mum, Michelle, got in touch with Angela Tait, the chair of The Friends of Harold Park to see if there was something he could do.

As a result, Ashley did a sponsored litter pick in Harold Park over the summer holidays and has to date raised over £350 for the Bradford Curry Project.

And the youngster is not stopping there. Ashley now wants to get more involved volunteering and is soon to become the newest - and youngest - member of The Friends of Harold Park and he has inspired his best friend to think about joining too.

Ashley is described as “a shining example of a young person who wants to make a difference to the world around him and is truly inspirational to others”.

Rifaqat Ali

AN enthusiastic cyclist, Mr Ali has been a catalyst in youngsters in the community getting involved in charity work through arranging bike rides.

He has organised charity bike rides such as Bradford to Liverpool Docks ; Bradford to Scarborough and Bradford to Manchester to raise funds and awareness .

These events have raised in excess of £20,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Hospice, Brain and Tumour Research, victims of Manchester terrorist attack and West Bowling Islamic Society.

He has over many years engaged youngsters in trying new sports and interest through West Bowling Activity Group.

He has arranged golf sessions, tennis, table tennis and football tournaments for under16s and given opportunities to young people to experience the atmosphere at live football games at Manchester United and Bradford City which has led to some becoming season ticket holders at Bradford City.

He has project managed the renovation and transformation of Drove Road House which was purchased by the West Bowling Community from a derelict 40 single bed flats into Madni Centre which has become the hub of services being delivered for the benefit of the community.

It is used by Bradford College and other organisations to deliver training and courses .

Those who nominated Mr Ali say he always encouraging and leads from the front.

He appears to have a vast resource of energy and is a good motivator, is very focussed and is not put off by obstacles, hardships and keeps the benefits of the end product in sight.

He never gives less than 100 per cent and expects the same from all which is why all the projects he has managed have proven successful for the organization ,the community and individuals taking part.

Some individuals on completion of bike rides did not realize their own potential and had overwhelmed themselves with what they had achieved and discovered about themselves.
