City face a race to get Jermaine Johnson fit in time for Saturday's West Yorkshire derby.
The flying Jamaican winger lasted only 13 minutes of the 2-0 win over Tranmere before limping off, clutching his right hamstring.
And Colin Todd admits it will be touch and go whether Johnson, the Telegraph & Argus/Bradford & Bingley player of the month for September, can recover quickly enough for the Huddersfield showdown.
Todd said: "JJ has got a little bit of a strain but we don't know how severe yet. Hopefully getting him off quickly might just have helped.
"But he's a hard act to follow because he's been outstanding lately."
City will get a clearer picture when Johnson goes for a scan today after the injury has had a chance to settle down. But his absence would mean a huge opportunity for Joe Colbeck, who took his place from the bench at the weekend.
Johnson's injury was the only black spot on City's third win in four games, which kept them in the leading bunch after two months of competition.
Todd said: "That's the most comfortable 2-0 we've had. I felt we dominated the game.
"There was one ingredient missing in the first half when we didn't play with any tempo. But all we had to do was step up our passing and movement and I knew we'd win the game.
"Tranmere are a team who have scored a lot of goals but apart from one scare when they hit the post, I thought they did nothing else to worry us."
Mark Bower and Steve Schumacher netted for City in the second half but Dean Windass will have to wait another week to reach the magic 200-goal milestone.
"I don't like singling out players but Schumacher deserved his goal," added the City boss. "We've got a lot of consistency along the middle line which we didn't have last season and there's good competition between him and Bridge-Wilkinson.
"But we're playing with so much confidence and belief and I felt we could have won by more than two. We never looked in any danger.
"It's nice to be up in the play-off spots but it's still early days. But the most important factor is that you have to stay up there."
