His Honour Judge Colin Burn has been appointed to sit as a circuit judge at Bradford Crown Court.
The 49-year-old was educated at a grammar school in Durham and at London University.
After a few years in the Army in the late 1980s, he joined and practised as a barrister from what are now Sovereign Chambers in Leeds. During this time, he did a substantial amount of work in Bradford.
Before his appointment in Bradford, Judge Burn spent almost ten years as a full-time judge, both in service courts (the Court Martial) and in the Crown Court.
In 2010, he was appointed as a circuit judge hearing cases in the Crown Court only.
Judge Burn’s wife is a barrister and they have four children. He lives in the Bradford area, having been a resident of Yorkshire for the past 23 years.
He told the Telegraph & Argus: “I am, of course, delighted to be appointed to Bradford, and looking forward to working with the dedicated and extremely able people who are employed in the Crown Courts in this great and diverse city.”
