An organisation which runs one of the biggest summer events in the Bradford area has folded.
Haworth Village Association, which oversees the 1940s Weekend, was axed at an emergency meeting.
The gathering was called by chairman Linda Presley who said there was not enough support for the small committee to carry on.
And this year’s event, held in May, was facing a £5,000 loss on the £20,000 cost to put on the weekend, which attracts thousands of people nationwide.
A packed meeting in the Old White Lion, Haworth, saw the association vote 11-3 in favour of winding-up. But there was a pledge to carry on holding the 1960s Weekend in Haworth Park on the weekend of June 18 and 19.
It was proposed that in future each event, including the Christmas weekend celebrations, will be overseen by independent groups.
Mrs Presley, who runs the Chocolate Box in Main Street, said: “We were astounded by the amount of people who attended the meeting. There was standing room only.
“If this kind of support had been shown earlier, we would not have been in this crisis.
“By the end of the meeting I was encouraged by the number of people stepping forward to get involved in the future.”
She said there would be another meeting late in June to outline more details of the way forward.
