Quirky designs by a Shipley jewellery-maker will be stocked at Selfridges’ flagship London store.
After years of arts and crafts during afternoons with her grandmother as a child, Rowan Grant developed a passion for fashion and is establishing herself on the web as designer Kitschen Sink.
Bracelets made from tape measures and earrings made from Lego cubes were among the designs that caught the eye of Supermarket Sarah, a fashion stockist and designer who has been given space in the Oxford Street department store. Miss Grant’s designs will be sold there until Wednesday, April 21.
The 27-year-old craftswoman, whose business is based at her Shipley home, said: “It’s really exciting to see my things in such a big place. I’m getting inquiries all the time from stockists but this is the most exciting one yet.”
Miss Grant said she spent a lot of time at her grandmother’s house in Eccleshill when she was younger, which was where she developed her crafting skills.
She said: “My Grandma showed me how to knit and paint and I used to really enjoy that.
“I recycle, and reuse things, that’s how I came up with the name Kitschen Sink – it’s kitsch.
“I scour charity shops and car boot sales and I do art and craft fairs around the area.”
