Rugby League: All three Bradford clubs earned convincing wins to reach the semi-finals of the Pennine Presidents Cup.

Clayton knocked out Premier Division leaders and holders Elland 32-24 in a great match at the Delph.

In perfect conditions the Villagers raced into an 18-2 lead.

They scored after a kick through and chase from Richard Wood and a sharp short-range effort from Chris Parr. Then Adam Mitchell was on hand to finish a cross-field move.

Mitchell made no mistake in converting all three tries.

Elland fought back strongly, but Clayton went into the break 24-20 ahead after prop Danny Murgatroyd beat four defenders on a charge to the posts to leave Mitchell an easy conversion.

Both sides tightened their defences after the restart but the lighter Clayton pack eventually gained the upper hand thanks mainly to a great effort from hooker Chris Parkinson.

Second row forward Andy Stephenson showed his class when he finished his own 50-metre run, and a Mitchell penalty closed the match to win it for Clayton.

Birkenshaw's great season continued with a 48-22 success at Littleborough - a win that takes them into the semi-finals for the first time in the club's history.

The tie was effectively over by half-time with Birkenshaw 36-0 ahead.

The Rochdale side had no answer to speedy three-quarters Dave Turpin and Jason Brooksbank who both scored hat-tricks. Micky Glenn scored twice and Ryan Bostock once with Jarrod Toulson kicking six goals.

West Bowling A - the Pennine League's top scorers - demolished Premier Division Lindley Swifts 62-8 at Bankfoot Cricket Club.

The Huddersfield side could not cope with a rampant Bowling side who out-paced and out-thought them throughout.

Full-back Chris Scott had a great day with four touchdowns and there were further tries for Paul Preistley (2), Ryan Hunkin, Jason Page, Ian Wormald and Dean Garside. Scrum-half Jason Woolham scored a try and kicked nine goals.

Queensbury A reached the final of the Shipley Trophy for the second consecutive year with a 34-22 win at Illingworth A.

Queensbury started well and opened up a 14-point advantage with tries from hooker Neil Hobson and scrum-half Jason Pell. Loose forward Shaun Fallon converted both and landed a penalty.

But Illingworth hit back by scoring three converted tries to lead 18-14 at the interval.

Queensbury brought on half-back Matthew Cooper and he was soon in the action, sending prop Martin Kemp on a run to the posts for Fallon to convert.

Queensbury were clearly not going to be denied and Kemp soon powered over for his second. That was followed by two more from centre Timmy Jackson to earn them a place in the final at Eccleshill.

In the Pennine Premier Division Queensbury lost 32-24 at Ovenden despite leading 16-0 with tries from winger Steve Eyles, centre Lee Baron and forward Matthew Galtress.

Ovenden fought their way back and improved in the second half to win with ease.

Queensbury did manage a further try from Eyles and hooker Steve Gallagher kicked a total of four goals.

West Bowling B caused a shock in the Division Five promotion race with a great 19-12 win at home to second-placed Greetland.

They scored tries from John Helliwell, Wesley Brearton and Shah Basha. Trevor Tordoff kicked three goals and a drop goal.

Shipley won their last home match of the season 46-16 against Undercliffe A.

They scored nine tries from John Askham (2), Mark Smith (2), Neil Walters (2), Alistair Boocock, Guy Dunn and Tony Parkinson. Darren Ellerton kicked five conversions.
