A Shipley gymnastics club, which produced Olympians during its 1970s heyday, is trying to trace members for a reunion.
Jill Livingstone, nee Coulton, who ran Saltaire Ladies Gymnastic Club for more than 20 years, was an Olympian herself and was the daughter of Carrie Pollard, who was in the British team in the 1928 Olympics.
The reunion will mark Mrs Livingstone’s 75th birthday and the former members hope to gather at Victoria Hall, Saltaire, where the club used to practice.
Two of its brightest stars were Barbara Collins (Alred), who has died, and Anne Grundy (Parkinson). Mrs Grundy said: “Jill was a wonderful coach, her skill and tireless work supported hundreds of members.”
Another former member and founder of Leeds gymnastics school Gymmagic, Sharon Gott, is helping to organise the event.
She said: “We are all still involved with gymnastics and it is a testament to the club. We had a fantastic time and we want to show our appreciation of Jill.
“The skills I learned at Saltaire Ladies were for life, not just gymnastics. I can get over any obstacle and I am very big on teamwork. I will always be really grateful to them.”
Former members are invited to the reunion, on Saturday, July 3, at Victoria Hall. The club later became Acro1 and their former members are also invited.
