TRAFFIC was held up following a vehicle fire on the M62 this afternoon (Saturday).
The fire, which took place on the eastbound carriageway of the M62 between junctions 22 (Rishworth Moor) and 23 (Huddersfield), held up traffic while firefighters battled a blaze to a vehicle on the hard shoulder.
A traffic alert posted earlier this afternoon said: “All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to vehicle fire on M62 eastbound between J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) and J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield).
“Two lanes are also closed on the westbound carriageway.”
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, National Highways: Yorkshire also confirmed the fire service were dealing with the vehicle fire.
National Highways posted: “Traffic is held on the M62 eastbound between J22 and J23 near Huddesfield. This is due to a car fire on the hard shoulder.
“Fire crews are on scene damping down the vehicle. There are 30 minute delays at present but we expect the fire service to allow lanes past scene soon.
A traffic alert posted a few minutes ago said: “Traffic easing, earlier vehicle fire on M62 eastbound between J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) and J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield).”
The T&A has contacted the West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service for information.
