CITY raised over £19,000 for Stephen Darby’s MND charity from their part in March of the Day.

The three-day challenge in aid of the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation involved walking from Valley Parade to Anfield via 17 other football grounds along the way.

The whole event, dedicated to City legend Darby and ex-Huddersfield striker Stewart, brought in more than £200,000 for the charity – set up following the former Bantam’s diagnosis with motor neurone disease in 2018.

And City have announced that their walking party contributed £19,253.86 towards the total amount of £201,976.14.

A number of club staff took part in the trek, including manager Graham Alexander and assistant Chris Lucketti, as well as a host of Darby’s former Valley Parade teammates.

Some were involved in the first leg to Elland Road or on to Huddersfield. Others also rejoined for the final walk from Wigan to Liverpool on the Sunday.

The club's team, set up by ex-City winger Filipe Morais, smashed its initial fundraising target of £10,000 on its way to raising over £16,000 in donations, and with the JustGiving page now closed, the final total has been donated to the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.

A core team including the likes of Chris Kirkland, Dominic Matteo, Kevin Darby, Stephen’s brother, and his father-in-law Len Houghton were joined by different football faces on the journey.

City staff had previously raised £18,818 for the foundation through the “Claret and Amber ramble” just over 12 months ago when a group walked from Valley Parade to the away game at Rochdale.
