IN THE post-war years Marks & Spencer in Darley Street was a popular shopping destination.
In this picture, taken in 1948, men and women are flocking to the shop to buy their wares as they rebuild their lives. Damage to adjacent buildings caused in 1940 by an incendiary bomb can still be seen.
The recent news that the store is closing down has come as a shock to many. Marks & Spencer's history in Bradford dates back to 1906 when a Penny Bazaar opened here.
A store opened in Darley Street in 1929 and closed in 1935, to be replaced by a second store in the street. In 2015 the shop moved to the new Broadway shopping centre, where it remains.
The busy store continues to be a go-to destination for shoppers in the city. There is no set date for its closure, but one thing is for certain, when it does finally move out of Bradford after more than a century it will be much-missed.
