A Council increasingly moving to card payments is causing consternation for some residents.
But the authority will always work with people to find a way to pay by cash if they cannot access services in that way, says a senior councillor.
Coun Jenny Lynn, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet member for Public Services and Communities, was asked a question about payments at Cabinet’s question time session.
Peter Hunt said he had been asked to raise the issue on behalf of a resident where the household had issues with making payment by card or online and preferred where possible to pay in cash.
“They have a large number of items they need to be collected by the council under the bulky waste collection service, but are told they cannot pay cash.
“Is there a mechanism by which the council can make reasonable adjustments in allowing cash payment, and can the policy be reviewed to allow such?” he said.
Coun Lynn (Lab, Park) said in line with most modern business operations the council had moved the majority of its services to card payments only.
“However, where a customer is unable to access services in this way we will always work with them to find an alternative way for them to pay."
