VOLUNTEERS from the Bradford district have been chosen as Coronation Champions to mark King Charles III’s celebrations.

Karen Pritchard, Terry Quinn and Saliha Sadiq have been named as three of 500 Coronation Champions from across the UK to mark the royal festivities.

Karen, from Murphy’s Army Purple Poppy Campaign, a charity inspired by the Bradford husky dog who went missing and was found in 2014, has received a special invitation to the Coronation Concert held at Windsor Castle on Sunday, May 7.

Purple poppies are knitted or crocheted by a group of volunteers for the project each year and the project has raised more than £150,000 to date.

Meanwhile, Terry Quinn, a guide dog owner from Bradford and a volunteer for Guide Dogs, is another to be selected.

He is a volunteer speaker for Guide Dogs and a passionate campaigner for people living with sight loss, and was nominated by the charity.

As part of this award, he and guide dog Spencer have been invited to attend the Windsor Castle Coronation Concert.

Terry said: “This has come as a big surprise to me, as I don’t particularly view myself as doing anything extraordinary.

“To actually be selected as a Coronation Champion is truly humbling, I feel very blessed.”
