LATEST NEWS: Woman found in canal named locally with heartfelt tributes left on towpath
POLICE have found the body of a woman in a canal this morning.
The body of a female, in her 30s, has been recovered from the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, near Bingley, by officers today.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said the force was called at 7.49am to reports of "a concern for safety" on Wagon Lane.
They added: "A body of a woman in her 30s was recovered from the canal.
"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Officers at the scene were spotted investigating a barge on the canal, which is tied up, at around 11.30am.
A police cordon was put in place this morning.
On the road, it started at the junction of Dowley Gap Lane and the entrance to the Aire Valley Park industrial estate and stretched to the junction of Primrose Lane and Primrose Bank.
There was also a cordon in place on the canal towpath, which started at the locks and ended further down the path.
A woman who lives in the area said the cordon was removed and the roads reopened at around 1.05pm.
