A GROUP of Bingley runners have been clocking up the miles - and the pounds....
Members of the running group, Trail Snails, set up in May 2018 by Bradford police officer Sam Swift and her friend Dan Cherington, recently ran for breast cancer charity supporter Boobilicious.
Organised by one of the group's runners, Jo Milne, the virtual 5K race, which raised around £1,000 for the charity, involved 29 participants running in their own time along the canal into Roberts Park, Saltaire and back to the Fisherman's pub, Bingley.
Now members are preparing for their next charity run - the Race for Life - supporting Cancer Research in Lister Park, Bradford on May 18.
As well as supporting charities - at Christmas they held a "Secret Santa" donating presents they purchased to the children's and adults wards at Airedale Hospital, and on World Kidney Day in March this year they undertook a virtual race and 5K road race raising £1,500 for Kidney Research UK, the group also support the Myrtle parkrun in Bingley by running or volunteering at the event.
Such is the group's dedication to running, it was recognised in September last year by England Athletics for volunteers of the year for Yorkshire and Humber region.
Future events include the Couch to 5K beginners programme planned for the summer.
"For anyone wanting to join us, we don't want you to be Mo Farrah; we just want you to have fun, support each other and help us eat cake!" says Sam.
