A CLOSURE-THREATENED library in one of Bradford’s most deprived estates has been thrown a lifeline.
Bradford-based training company All Star Entertainment is teaming up with local residents to take over the running of the Holme Wood Library, in Broadstone Way.
Bradford Council is moving most of its libraries to a volunteer-run model and bosses had warned they would close libraries if volunteers could not be found.
The Holme Wood library re-opened under its new management at 2pm on Friday, after a refurbishment funded by the Friends of Holme Wood group.
All Star’s manager, Suzanne Elster, said: “We are writing a new chapter in history of Holme Wood library, working with members of the friends of Holme Wood group and community partners to create and sustain a hub of literacy and learning.
“We want to create a shared space that has a programme of interesting and relevant activities available to all residents of Holme Wood to enjoy.”
She said they were still seeking volunteers.
Hundreds of local people had signed a petition calling for Holme Wood library to be spared from closure.
