A FIRE crew from Bingley was called to a car fire in Goose Lane, Hawksworth, after the vehicle set on fire as it was being driven.

The callout came at 11.36am today. A spokesman for Bingley Fire and Rescue Service said the driver was unaware there was a fire under his BMW car until he was flashed by another driver.

"It was 100 per cent alight when we got there and we had to temporarily close the road because the fuel tank had ruptured and there was a lot of diesel on the road.

"The driver was uninjured but was shaken by the experience."
